Dear and Departed
A downloadable game
Dear and Departed
Dear and Departed is a capstone project I developed for my final year at AUT. Currently, it exists as a demo, but I hope to complete the full game in the future.
Since I'm new to game development and still working on my coding skills, there may be some bugs and errors—apologies in advance! I hope you enjoy the storyline and environment nonetheless.

Research Question : “How can character design and colour theory be explored in game design, to convey the declining emotions associated with anxiety and depression?”
“Dear and Departed” is a narrative-driven portraying themes of anxiety and depression through its colour palettes and character designs. For this capstone project, using tools such as Procreate and Unity, My main objective was to create concept art, character designs and environmental designs, as 2D art is my strength and passion
The game concept is a 2D platformer set in an apocalyptic world, where the player must battle creatures and uncover hidden paths to find a friend who was taken. As the game progresses, the protagonist gradually transforms into one of these creatures, symbolizing how the grief of losing a friend consumes them. This transformation reflects the haunting reality of becoming the very thing they were fighting against.
